Nine times out of ten, the issue that stops a website going live is waiting on the client to provide their own bespoke narrative to replace the holding text that populates the website-in-waiting.
We get it, it’s hard to write copy that sounds professional, remains objective and is still interesting for potential customers to read. Furthermore, all ‘copy’ (the text for your site) should be SEO-friendly for Google, be structured in a way that is pleasing to read, hit on all the keywords that search engines will pick up on, and most importantly, be free of mistaeks, mistakes.
Some good guidelines include:
- Keep it short. You may have many areas of your business that you’re proud of and that you want to highlight but keeping it to a snappy paragraph (at least on the homepage) is key. People won’t read long bodies of text.
- Make things clear. Put yourself in your customer’s shoes – they likely won’t understand any industry terms or acronyms. Explain in the simplest way what you can offer them.
- Stand out. Highlight the parts of your business where you differ from your competitors – emphasise that unique selling point.
Obviously, there’s a lot more advice on this topic, but as per the suggestions above – keep it short and to the point.
